Michael Atmore is editorial director of the Footwear Group at Condé Nast Publications’ Fairchild Fashion Group. Overseeing industry bible Footwear News, the FN Retail Guide and WWD Accessories, a consumer title co-produced with Women’s Wear Daily, Atmore has dramatically expanded the company’s footwear coverage with more comprehensive news, global issues, runway reviews and breaking fashion trends.
Under his editorial leadership, Footwear News has been redesigned to focus on exclusive interviews with the industry’s biggest designers, executives and retailers. Atmore also helped launch the successful WWD Accessories, a consumer title geared to the luxury shopper. Under his direction, the Footwear Group hosts two important industry events, the Footwear News Annual Achievement Awards, a celebration of the best in fashion, and the FN CEO Summit, an exclusive conference that draws a diverse and accomplished group of top-level executives. In 2008, Atmore also created the FN Shoe Star competition, a design contest for students to find the next great footwear designer.
Atmore also served as chairman of Fairchild’s Editorial Committee and was a member of the company’s Executive Committee. Prior to joining Condé Nast, Atmore was founding Editorial Director and Publisher of Footwear Plus. He has an extensive background in retail issues, having worked as Editorial Director for a group of retail-based publications at International Thomson, as well as having held top editorial positions at US Business Press and Harcourt Brace.
