The Fairchild Archive provides access to and preserves the text and images created by Daily News Record, Footwear News, Women’s Wear Daily, and W Magazine. Our holdings include photographs, illustrations, historic papers, bound volumes, loose issues, and microfilm. We also house the Fairchild Library, a rare and notable collection of fashion-related books, periodicals, and one-of-a-kind scrapbooks.
We are primarily focused on ensuring that the editorial staff of the Fairchild Fashion Group and the Condé Nast titles have the most complete and timely access to these materials. However, we also welcome outside researchers. Concurrently, we are taking measures to preserve our valuable assets according to archival practices and standards so that they will continue to be accessible.

Our Image collection houses photographic material from Daily News Record, Footwear News, Women’s Wear Daily and W Magazine. It dates from the mid 1960’s to the present, however the bulk of the images date from 1972- present.

The Archive houses the historic Fairchild Library collection, which includes over 6,000 books and periodicals covering topics ranging from fashion to interior design to marketing, as well as 2,000 one-of-a-kind fashion scrapbooks.
We maintain microfilm for all of our daily and weekly publications, as well as the consumer publication W.
We have bound issues of Women’s Wear Daily and Daily News Record back to the mid 1960’s and a full run of W magazine
The electronic archive for DNR, FN, WWD, and W Magazine goes back to 1994. Our holdings before 1994 are not indexed.
The Fairchild Archive is open for outside visitors Monday to Friday, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Visitors are welcomed by appointment only.

Fairchild maintains an electronic archive containing the text of all editorial articles published in Fairchild’s magazines since January 1994. It is primary used by staff for research. The general public can request searches of the electronic archives for the following fees:
We accept Mastercard, Visa, American Express, and cash. We do not accept personal checks. Payment is required up front before requests are fulfilled. Contact the Fairchild Archive at (212) 630-4274.
Our Archive stacks are closed. This means that any material visitors request to view will have to be pulled by an Archive staff member.

Please allow sufficient time for research requests. Requests can take anywhere from a week to a month for completion depending on the nature of the request and the workload of the Archive employees at the time. Prices are listed below.
Staff Research:
$75.00 per hour - includes up to 5 free articles Photocopies beyond this limit are $.25 (black and white) or $1.00 (color).
Staff Research for Non-Profits and Students:
$50.00 per hour - all photocopies are $.05 (black and white) or $.50 (color).
Visitor Research (By appointment only):
$50.00 per hour - includes up to 5 free articles Photocopies beyond this limit are $.25 (black and white) or $1.00 (color).
Photo Research for Syndication:
$60.00 per hour plus scanning and syndication fees
